SUVA Chronicles Episode 2: Art of Prompting and Temperature Control
Everyday we see headlines about AI taking center stage, often sparking fear about job security.
But let's shift our perspective and focus on the exciting opportunities it's creating.
Who would have thought about the existence of a job like 'prompt engineer'? A role where you wield the power to control powerful tools like virtual assistants and make them perform as per your will.
As they say, “When life hands you lemons, make a lemonade” :p
Surprisingly, prompting isn’t rocket science. With a few simple steps, you can craft prompts that guide virtual assistants to generate responses that are not just accurate but also tailored to your specific domain. Here are some key practices:
- Clearly define tasks or information
- Avoid ambiguous or vague language
- Include diverse examples
- Utilize real-world or closely resembling data
And while maintaining the right tone, language, and examples is the key, it is also important to test and employ iterations to improve the quality and appropriateness of the responses generated by a virtual assistant. So make sure to:
- Develop a testing protocol with known and unknown prompts
- Analyze results and refine prompts gradually
- Regularly update and expand prompt sets
- Monitor and address unintended biases in responses
- Explore negative testing with misleading prompts or those outside the expected scope
- Identify patterns, errors, and areas of struggle
- Seek feedback from users and incorporate it to make prompt adjustments
I have shared deeper insights in a session around, ‘'The Art of Prompting and Temperature Control,’ along with my colleague, Yajush Chaudhary.
Tune in now to master the art of prompting and driving controlled and seamless conversational experiences :D
