Search Reading Strings Correctly

Right now, our search takes phrases like, "red apple" as two separate words, "red" and "apple". It then finds results that relate to red things, ignoring the apple part. How do we make search consider the whole string? I know order matters (red apple vs apple red), but it shouldn't be ignoring the user's full query like that.
